👋 Hello Everyone and welcome to the grand finale of 2025!
💥 I’m excited to unveil this Special End‑Year Edition of my newsletter a curated collection of the most influential insights in HR & People Analyticsfrom the past twelve months.
If you missed any of my daily or weekly posts this year, don’t worry.
This exclusive edition brings everything together, the research, the signals, the shifts, and the surprises that shaped the world of work in 2025.
I mapped the evolution of our HR field from 2024 to 2025. What struck me most in this year‑end review is not only what emerged but what quietly disappeared.
Some of the big themes that dominated 2023–2024 simply didn’t survive the pressure test of 2025:
🔴 GenAI as a standalone topic Last year (2024), GenAI was everywhere, a buzzword, a promise, a fear. But in 2025, it stopped being a “topic” and became an infrastructure layer. It moved from hype to hygiene. From “What is GenAI?” to “How do we redesign our operating model around it?” That’s why it vanished from the trend list: it’s no longer a trend, it’s the baseline.
🔴 Full remote‑work The debate that consumed us for two years has faded. Not because it’s solved, but because organizations stopped treating it as a philosophy and started treating it as a practical constraint. Hybrid is now the default. The research focus has shifted from “Where do people work?” to “How do we make work actually work?”
🔴 Career equity This topic didn’t disappear because it became less important — it disappeared because it became embedded. Skills, mobility, internal marketplaces, and transparent progression systems have absorbed it. Equity is no longer a standalone conversation; it’s a design principle.
🔴 DEI didn’t vanish; it evolved. After years of polarization, organizations reframed the conversation around human empathy, psychological safety, and mental health. The language changed, but the underlying need didn’t. 2025 made DEI less about slogans and more about human capability and trust.
- Others have surged with urgency:
And then there are the new topics in green, the ones that weren’t even on the radar a year ago, yet suddenly define the reality of 2025.
🟢 Productivity Not the old version measured by hours or presence — but a deeper, more honest look at what truly drives value in a hybrid, AI‑augmented world.
🟢 Leadership Effectiveness With teams stretched, reorganized, and redefined, leadership is no longer about style — it’s about impact, clarity, and trust.
🟢 Cost‑Efficiency 2025 forced organizations to rethink every investment. Efficiency became strategic, not reactive.
🟢 Skill Disruption AI didn’t just automate tasks — it reshaped entire capability maps. The half‑life of skills is collapsing, and leaders can feel it.
🟢 Innovation Not as a buzzword, but as a survival strategy. Companies that didn’t innovate… stalled.
🟢 Layoff Anxiety A silent but powerful trend. Even in growing companies, uncertainty shaped behavior, engagement, and culture.
🟢 Mental Health No longer a “nice to have.” It became a core performance driver — and a leadership responsibility.
🟢 Executive Turnover Boards demanded new capabilities. Leaders who couldn’t adapt to AI, complexity, or speed… moved on.
🟢AI‑Infused HR Operating Model Perhaps the biggest shift of all. AI stopped being a tool and became the backbone of how HR operates from workflows to decision‑making to workforce planning.
and a few have transformed entirely.
From layoff anxiety to executive turnover, from AI-infused HR models to the myth of productivity, the signals are clear: We’re entering a new era of workforce strategy; one that demands empathy, precision, and bold reinvention. This isn’t just a trend list. It’s a mirror of what matters now. And a compass for what’s coming next.
These disappearances tell a bigger story: HR research is maturing. We’re moving away from buzzwords and ideological battles, and toward operational, measurable, human‑centric realities.
And that’s exactly why the 2025 trends look so different, sharper, more grounded, more urgent.
✅ The HR Buzzwords of 2025
Every year brings its own language; the words that capture our fears, our shifts, and our collective evolution. And 2025 was no exception.

🎊 Let’s close out the year by diving into the standout HR insights of 2025 and paving the way for an even stronger 2026!
✅ Return-to-office mandate
This research shows that each working practice has behaviors, policies, or norms that contribute to how well it functions. Some of these enablers, as researchers call them, are more important than others, and together they influence the maturity of each practice, regardless of working model.
These enablers reflect the dynamics that are present in each model, including commonalities and differences in experience.
🚀 Overall, each of the five working practices shares at least two enablers across every working model.
- For the in-person working model, the four key enablers are: Skill proficiency, Experimentation/iteration culture, Leadership representation, Key talent stability
- For hybrid working model, the two key enablers are: Work–life balance, Transparency and trust
- For mostly remote, the three key enablers are : Network accessibility, Professional development, Leader support for innovation, Peer support for skill development
These suggest that what organizations need to get right is largely the same, allowing for nuances related to the working model.
✅ Layoffs
Forrester researchers found that 55% of employers now regret laying off employees in favor of AI. In many cases, those cuts were made based on capabilities that don’t actually exist yet, a gamble on future technology rather than proven performance.
☝️ When that bet fails, companies face a choice: Admit the mistake and rehire at previous salaries, or quietly fill gaps with lower-cost offshore labo
✅ Resilient & Adaptable
Resilient and Adaptable Employees Drive 4x More Innovation and Engagement!
📍 McKinsey & Company researchers advise leaders to take the following actions:
✔️ Set a compass or North Star to help people move in a common direction.
Senior leaders can help foster resilience and adaptability at scale by pointing everyone toward a common North Star—for instance, some shared objectives and a few core principles or values (purpose, integrity, authenticity) that employees can cling to in the middle of a maelstrom.
✔️ Build a psychologically safe community, not just a workforce.
To be resilient and adaptable at scale, leaders need to emphasize this sense of community and turn a bunch of isolated company residents into a functional, flexible, and friendly neighborhood.
✔️ Ensure that they, themselves, are demonstrating resilience and adaptability and serving as role models for others.
✔️ Encourage employees to learn and build these skills in groups.
✅ New-collar jobs
Workhuman researchers found that “New-collar jobs” refer to positions that do not necessitate a traditional college degree. Instead, they emphasize refined technical skills gained through specialized training and soft skills developed via nontraditional educational routes.
☝️ Many new-collar workers are self-taught, developing their skills through certification programs, internships or apprenticeships, on-the-job experience, or community college.
They are considered “new” collar due to the industries and roles their skill sets match, like data science, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing – all relatively new areas of work.
❗️ Many traditional university programs aren’t able to keep up with the shifts in technology. Thus, new-collar workers are poised to jump into newly developed roles like AI specialists or cybersecurity managers.
✅ Cost-efficiency
📍 Boston Consulting Group (BCG) researchers provide four strategies for enduring cost management fosters continuous improvement of HOW work is done:
✔️ Equip leaders with tools, visibility, and empowerment to identify and drive cost-saving initiatives
✔️Foster a cost-aware and accountable culture by celebrating wins; encourage learning from successes and setbacks to drive ongoing improvement
✔️ Align employees with cost reduction goals and growth vision; empower employees to join solutioning process; provide real-time feedback
✔️ Implement effective governance and tracking of cost reduction initiatives; hold employees accountable for progress
✅ Leadership Turnover
📍 Culture Amp researchers offer the following recommendations for leaders to better support their teams:
✔️ Include questions about leadership in employee surveys.
Not all companies add questions about leadership in their engagement surveys. But this is a huge missed opportunity
✔️ Give them the data.
Leaders can’t address what they don’t know is happening. Share data that show how their actions directly impact employee experience, engagement, and retention – it’s a powerful motivator.
✔️ Offer tailored training and development.
What employees need from leaders shifts over time, and expectations have been increasing.
✔️ Tools to scale development.
Leaders need resources that make growth manageable, not overwhelming.
✔️ Elevate the voice of women leaders.
✅ Leadership Exodus
Rising Leadership Exodus: Stress and Burnout Push Leaders to the Brink in 2025!
📍 DDI | Development Dimensions International researchers suggest that leaders can strategically rebuild trust by consistently embodying four pivotal behaviors:
✔️ Listen and respond with genuine empathy. Leaders who show they are truly listening and respond empathetically build deeper, more authentic connections with their team members.
✔️ Encourage others to speak up without fear of reprisal. Creating a psychologically safe environment where employees feel safe to share ideas, concerns, and feedback is critical to building trust.
✔️ Share thoughts and rationale for decisions. Transparent communication about the rationale behind decisions helps employees feel genuinely included and valued, enhancing trust.
✔️ Encourage others to challenge old ways of doing things. Challenging existing paradigms fosters innovation and signals that leaders value continuous improvement, driving both trust and creativity.
Researchers compare the current demands on management with the evolving requirements, and they have categorized the role of managers into four key pillars:
1️⃣ Strategical
2️⃣ Analytical (IQ)
3️⃣ Emotional (EQ)
4️⃣ Tactical
👍🏻 Researchers conclude that effective managers must possess a high degree of flexibility, enabling them to swiftly balance the strategic goals of the organization with the tactical tasks required of their team.
✅ AI as a compass for growth
📍 The Adecco Group researchers offer a set of actionable recommendations to help organizations and leaders boost employee confidence in AI and unlock its full potential for productivity and growth:
1️⃣ Instil workforce purpose: Provide clarity on how AI supports your organisation’s priorities – and what it means for careers.
2️⃣ Demonstrate the value of work: Unlock capacity with AI and develop a strategy to ensure time saved
3️⃣ Build trust to successfully redesign jobs: Involve workers in the job redesign process and clearly communicate the roles that both humans and AI agents are expected to play.
